Media Sciences, Inc. is an internationally recognized testing laboratory, training center, and research facility for the data storage industry. It has assisted over 360 clients in 25 countries since its founding in 1985. Media Sciences provides professional, third party support of quality programs of our clients. The objective of Media Sciences is always to strengthen, not interfere with, the link between vendor and customer.
This independent company conducts objective, accurate quality testing and troubleshooting of DVD and CD optical discs, diskettes, and drives. Test data and analytical reports can establish confidence in media interchange and longevity. Knowledge gained from our seminars enables vendors and customers to efficiently and effectively manage their quality programs. Results of internally-funded research conducted in important areas are presented at conferences and are also published. Media Sciences has co-chaired two international conferences on test methods, and has contributed to Standards organizations such as ISO, ANSI, and ECMA.
Media Sciences believes that its practices and procedures conform to the requirements of ISO/IEC Guide 25. This document provides general requirements for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories. It addresses quality systems for labs based upon requirements similar to those of the ISO 9000 series for manufacturing facilities. Although Media Sciences has been unable to find a reliable source for accreditation, it carefully correlates its measurements with international and private standards.
Dr. Jerome Hartke is the founder and president of Media Sciences. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Illinois as well as BSEE and MS degrees from Kansas State University. After serving as a research scientist at Xerox Corporation and the Ion Physics subsidiary of High Voltage Engineering Corp., he founded KSW Electronics, a manufacturer of specialized ion-implanted semiconductors. Subsequently he served as vice president and general manager of the Semiconductor Division of Loral Corporation.
In 1993, Dr. Hartke was invited as Guest Scientist to the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, the standards laboratory of the German government, where he participated in work on test methods for magnetic recording.
